OUR STORY
OUR JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
Established in 1908, Sarelli Interiors Textiles began as a small weaving workshop in Northern Italy, gradually building its reputation for exceptional textile quality and skilled craftsmanship. Like the silkworms that produced the fine threads for their first creations, Sarelli Interiors Textiles grew slowly but steadily, transforming raw materials into works of art through patience and dedication.
Following World War II, the company expanded internationally and broadened its expertise to include luxury hospitality projects and custom textile solutions.
Today, Sarelli Interiors Textiles stands as a global leader in premium textiles, combining over a century of Italian manufacturing heritage with modern innovation to create exceptional fabrics, rugs, and carpets for the world’s most prestigious spaces.
The Birth of Italian Excellence
1908-1939
The Sarelli story begins in 1908 when Giacomo Sarelli, driven by his passion for fine textiles, established a small weaving workshop in Northern Italy’s textile district. The region was already known for its textile production, with its perfect climate conditions for working with delicate fibers and its skilled workers who passed their knowledge from generation to generation. Giacomo’s vision was clear: to create textiles of exceptional quality that would stand the test of time.
In these early years, Sarelli Interiors Textiles specialized in producing fine silk fabrics, taking advantage of the area’s historic silk-making tradition. The workshop started with just three looms and seven workers, focusing on creating textiles for local tailors and furniture makers. The company’s reputation for quality grew steadily, thanks to its careful selection of raw materials and passion.
The 1920s marked a significant turning point for Sarelli Interiors Textiles. The workshop expanded its operations, investing in new machinery and bringing in skilled weavers from across the region. This expansion allowed Sarelli Interiors Textiles to begin producing a wider range of textiles, including wool and cotton fabrics. By the late 1920s, the company had established its first proper factory, employing over thirty workers and operating twenty-plus looms.
The 1930s unfurled like a bolt of fine silk, revealing new collaborations with Italy’s finest furniture makers. The company began developing custom fabrics for luxury furniture pieces, marking its entry into the high-end textile market.
The Post-War Renaissance
1945-1980
When war cast its dark shadow over Europe, Sarelli Interiors Textiles, like many others, faced uncertain times. But just as a well-made fabric maintains its integrity through wear and tear, the company’s foundation remained strong. The post-war years bloomed like spring after a long winter, bringing new opportunities and fresh inspiration. The company’s facilities, though affected by the war, were quickly modernized with new machinery and improved production methods.
The 1950s marked the beginning of Italy’s economic miracle, and Sarelli Interiors Textiles was perfectly positioned to grow. The company expanded its product range to include high-end curtain fabrics and upholstery materials, responding to the increasing demand for quality home furnishings. This period saw Sarelli Interiors Textiles‘ first major exports, initially to Switzerland and France, then expanding across Europe.
During the 1960s, Sarelli Interiors Textiles became increasingly involved in prestigious hospitality projects. The company began supplying textiles to luxury hotels in Rome and Milan, establishing itself as a trusted supplier in commercial textiles.
The 1970s brought further innovation as Sarelli Interiors Textiles invested in advanced weaving technology while maintaining its commitment to traditional craftsmanship. The company developed its first collection of fire-resistant fabrics for hotels and started collaborating with leading Italian furniture brands. By the end of the decade, Sarelli Interiors Textiles had established itself as one of Italy’s premier white-label textile manufacturers, known for combining traditional techniques with modern innovation.
Modern Legacy
1980-Present
The 1980s and 90s marked Sarelli Interiors Textiles’ transformation into supplying for global luxury brands. The company expanded its presence internationally, assisting with showroom openings in major design capitals and developing partnerships with prestigious interior designers worldwide. This period saw Sarelli Interiors Textiles’ first major projects in the Middle East, furnishing palaces and luxury hotels with custom-made textiles and carpets.
The dawn of the digital age opened new horizons for Sarelli Interiors Textiles. While our looms continued to weave fine fabrics in Northern Italy, the internet allowed us to connect with designers and clients across the globe in ways we never imagined.
