There are four main types you’ll find on the market. First, there’s the manual loom, which is operated by hand and mostly used for craft work and small-scale production. Then you have mechanical looms, which are either fully or partially automated to reduce the amount of human work needed. The third type includes air-jet and water-jet looms, which use air or water pressure to move the thread across – these work really well for lighter fabrics that need a smooth finish. Finally, there are Jacquard looms, which are the most complex ones and can create really detailed patterns by controlling each thread individually.
